Squeezed & Stacked in Hong Kong

Book Design

“Squeezed & Stacked in Hong Kong” is a book project that examines the living conditions of Hong Kong’s grassroots communities. Through two essays and a recurring section documenting Mr. Chan’s daily routine, the work reveals the compressed and constrained realities faced by residents in the city’s densest spaces. It invites readers to feel the pressure, limitation, and human stories embedded within Hong Kong’s
extreme urban density.

(Background)

Hong Kong’s extreme housing density forces       many grassroots residents into cramped               subdivided and coffin-sized rooms—sometimes     even into tiny columbarium niches after death. This project reflects on this lifelong experience of spatial compression.
